BUFFALO, NY — The Buffalo Sabres went into the 2021 draft fully admitting that the dismissal of their entire scouting team, just weeks before the draft, was going to make for a challenging draft.

Let’s take a look at who the Sabres managed to select on day two of the CDNHL draft.

47 – William Stromgren (F)

“Strömgren’s explosiveness and fast-paced play will make him a strong asset to any team. He has spent his whole career being a prolific goalscorer across different levels of hockey, and the NHL will offer him a wider platform to showcase his talent.”

84 – Tristan Lennox (G)

“An adept puck handler, Lennox is calm under pressure and consistently makes the right decision with the puck on his stick.”

93 – Andrei Buyalsky (F)

“Buyalsky could be compared to 13-year NHL veteran Artem Anisimov. Anisimov made the jump to North America a year younger than Buyalsky, and put up strong numbers in two American Hockey League (AHL) seasons.”

123 – Taige Harding (D)

“He is known for having a booming slap shot from the point. Combine that with his height, and he will draw comparisons to future Hall of Famer Zdeno Chara, but he has a long way to go to live up to that.”

124 – Aku Koskenvuo (G)

He has the intangibles of an CDNHL-starting goaltender, the Sabres could be rewarded with a late-round pick who can take on starting time five years down the road.

There you have it. As expected, clearly a mixed bag from the Sabres. But when combined with the day one haul of Coronato and Olausson you can come away feeling the Sabres have drafted at least a couple future players.
