The Anaheim Ducks have hit the halfway point of their season as they played game 41 on Friday and there are some positives and negatives about the season so far.

The Positives – Anaheim is in a playoff spot which is great for a team that has missed the past two seasons. Their goal differential is a +19 and they are 8th in the league in goals against, an area they really looked to excel in this season. Anze Kopitar leads the team in points with 48 in 40 games (on pace for a 97 point season). Darnell Nurse has had a breakout season taking over as the team’s number one defender from Brent Burns and has 14 goals and 31 points (on pace for 28 goals and 62 points).

The Negatives – The Ducks came into the season with high expectations but are only holding onto 8th in the West by 4 points over Vancouver. The secondary scoring hasn’t run as deep for the team as they would have liked, with only 4 forwards on pace for 20+ goals. For a defensive minded team, Hellebuyck has a GAA of 2.59, which isn’t terrible, but definitely not as low as some would have expected with the team in front of him.

Anaheim will need a stronger second half if they hope to not only make the playoffs in the West, but make some noise once they get there.
