One of the first prospects the Caps drafted to start the rebuild off will be suiting up for the team next season. He may play a big role on the team as soon as next season as well if his development continues trending in the right direction. Vasili Podkolzin is a big bodied, all-around winger who has had a solid, but no fabulous, start to his NHL career with 5 goals and 2 assists in 24 games. His lack of production could also be attributed to a lack of playing time to start the year, and he is starting to get some solid minutes so he may begin to produce more. Ideally he can get somewhere around 15 goals, which given his current pace is more than reasonable. He is shooting a good % (that will likely go down) with a 15.2 shooting %. He has only shot the puck 33 times so that doesn’t really help his goal totals. Recently he has started getting playing time on the special teams as well. The best part is that this playing time isn’t just on the powerplay or the penalty kill. it’s both. He’s showcased his all around game early on and it’s fantastic to see. Overall with guys like Podkolzin on the way, the Capitals won’t be rebuilding for much longer.
