Caps Star D-man, Ryan Ellis

The Caps have had a very rough start to the year in the first 8 games, starting the year 3 -3 -2 is not ideal for last years eastern conference champs. But the Capitals GM assures the fans that while this start is rough, it was expected.

“We basically overhauled the whole team, we are still looking for the team to build chemistry and get the right line combos in place”, said GM MacPherson. “The only major pieces that have returned from our cup run last year have been Ellis, Cogliano and Komarov essentially. We expected to start slow but the fans have nothing to worry about, we plan to finish strong”.

“We have to be better”, said Caps star d-man Ryan Ellis. “We haven’t been able to get it going in the offensive zone, we are putting more pressure on our goalies than there has to be, and some nights we just leave our goalies out to dry which puts even more pressure on them, we can’t be a winning hockey team with the way we are currently playing”.

The one thing that has eluded the Caps so far is being a consistent offensive threat. 8 games in thus far and the Caps have only got 4 players with at least 2 goals on the squad. Krejci and Cogliano are tied for the team lead with 3 goals each and Seguin and Pietrangelo are tied for 3rd with 2 goals each. Overall the Caps are currently 22nd in the league in GF/G ad 26th in PP%. While the PK% improving wouldn’t hurt at all, it is pretty evident what the problem is in the nations capital, a lack of offensive drive, something they did not lack in last years underdog run to the finals. Can the Caps make the playoffs even if the team does not overly improve in that category? It is a possibility, but if the Caps don’t improve in the offensive end they will be make an early exit in the postseason if they do make it.
