The last two teams standing in the CDNHL playoffs are the Western Champion San Jose Sharks and the Eastern Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.  The Pens are 12-7 heading into the finals, while the Sharks are 12-3.

San Jose ended the regular season with 6 more wins and 11 more points than the Pens.  The Sharks had the best powerplay in the league during the season, but slightly behind them in second place were the Penguins.  San Jose has the 6th best PK, while Pittsburgh was 15th.  The Sharks scored about half a goal a game more than the Penguins, but defensively, the teams were very close.

During the playoffs, the Sharks control most of the major stat categories including the power play, penalty kill, goals scored, and by quite a margin, lead in goals against.  Shots for and against are very even.  Mathews and Marner lead playoff scoring by a wide margin over third and fourth place Pettersson and Scheifele respectively.

The stat line heavily favours the Sharks for their first cup win, but the Penguins are a great team who just bounced the President’s Trophy winning Sabres in round 3, so don’t count them out so fast.
