Patience and luck played a role in the Anaheim Ducks having the best young goaltending tandem in the league with Connor Hellebuyck and Jordan Binnington.  After an off year for the team and some holes to fill, there is a chance the Ducks could move one of their young studs for help elsewhere.  The ultimate question being which one would be better to build around for the future?  Or would keeping both be the best option?

Connor Hellebuyck was drafted in the 4th round (106th overall) in 2014.  He took over the starting role after Roberto Luongo left for free agency, but lost that role to Binnington this past season.  He did have the better numbers though, even if it was in a lot less games with a 11-8-2 record with 1 shutout, a 2.69 GAA, and a .917 SV%.  Hellebuyck is under contract for three more seasons.

Jordan Binnington was also selected in the 4th round (104th overall) a year later in 2015.  The pick was acquired the day before the selection from Carolina for Cal Clutterbuck.  Binnington won the Ducks starting role this past season due to higher ratings, but wasn’t as good with a 25-31-5 record with 2 shutouts, a 2.94 GAA, and a .901 SV%.  He is a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

Both were having very strong seasons in the NHL before the schedule got cut short.  The Ducks would prefer to have both on the roster next year, but one may have to go.  After the disappointing year, Anaheim will be making changes, but goaltending may be the toughest to part with.
