The Capitals have not been known to be a team that is looking to keep their free agents looking back at recent years. Most ufas are signed just to be traded away at a later date. Today however was one of the rare times where he Caps signed a guy to a deal with the intention of keeping him. Taylor Hall now comes to the Washington Capitals on a 4 year 5.45M dollar contract. It’s a steep cap hit especially for a player who needs to rebound, but the Capitals believe he ahs the talent to do so and become a future leader for their young core of players.

“When players like Byfield and Podkolzin become regulars in the lineup they will need veteran guidance, and Hall seems like the perfect guy to help them” said GM MacPherson. “We believe Hall will be a fixture on our top 6 for the entirety of his contract and have full faith in him, he has cup winning pedigree as he won the cup with Dallas in 2014 and Carolina in 2019, so he’s been there and done that, he is a perfect player to add to our team and we hope that some of that pedigree can rub off on our young core. As long as we are better than the Sabres we will be okay!”.

Will this contract be a good signing for the Caps? Or will it be horrendous? Only time will tell, it will be interesting to see how Hall can impact the Caps this upcoming year as it’s projected he’ll be on the top line with youngster Eeli Tolvanen. This signing will not make the Caps a playoff team this year, but it’s a sign that the Caps don’t think they are far off from being competitive again.
