Gionta was frustrated going into Game 3, had been firing blanks for the first 15 games of the playoffs and having no goals to his name and with his team down 2 games to 0 he felt like he was dragging his team down if anything. Well he just might’ve given the Caps the energy they need to bring this series back even.

“Ya I was frustrated, who wouldn’t have been” said Gionta regarding his 15 game goalless drought, “I might’ve not been on the ice the most during those games, but still I’ve had my chances and couldn’t capitalize for 15 games”.

Gionta scored 2 goals, including the game tying goal to help his Caps win Game 3 with a final score of 3-2. On the stat sheet though if you had just looked at the shot totals, you would’ve thought it was a blowout win for the Caps, out-shooting the Devils 40-19. But Devils netminder Martin Jones gave the Caps a scare with how well he was playing.

“That guy almost made me lose it” said GM MacPherson regarding Jones. “Our boys are out their playing what is possibly our best game of the playoffs so far and that man doesn’t have the common courtesy to let our boys enjoy it and let in a couple more. In all honesty though great game by him, we just hope we can break through and pot in a couple more for less of a nerve racing game in Game 4”.

The Caps hope to go back to their barn with the series tied 2-2, if they keep playing like this they might just do that.
