This past season was another rough one to watch for the Capitals fanbase. Finishing with only 17 wins and as the 4th worst team in the league. They currently have the 7th pick in what looks like one of the drafts with the most uncertainty ever, if not the draft with the most uncertainty. The Capitals have been doing their best scouting players available around this range and will likely still be uncertain on who to pick when it’s time to make their selection.

Despite all the uncertainty with the draft and the overall horrible season the Caps had, there were some bright spots. The transaction that brought the Capitals Tolvanen and Veleno in return for Jake Bean appears to be paying off big time already as Tolvanen has shown flashes of brilliance and the potential to be a key part of the future for the Capitals. Veleno has showed promise as well but there are rumors that he has been dealt away and the trade will be announced sometime in the near future.

Another bright spot has been the development of future franchise centerpiece Quinton Byfield. While Byfield is likely not ready for regular time in the lineup yet, he has shown that he does have the tools to be successful. The Capitals believe that one more season of development will be needed before he can secure his spot. Other top prospects like Podkolzin, Brisson and Soderstrom have been showing signs of development as well so there could be a huge influx of youth entering the Caps lineup sooner rather than later.

Some interesting news has been leaked out as well and the Capitals might be a lot more aggressive in ufa than they have been in previous years. There are rumors that they are eyeing up some of the star players on the market and may try to add one long term so that the youth have some established high end players to help ease them into the league.

As for the draft there have been rumors of the Caps eyeing up a certain few prospects and while uncertain of who they want right now, don’t be surprised if they go slightly off the board at 7. Whatever the case this offseason is shaping up to be the most interesting offseason of the Caps rebuilding process yet.
