The 2020 draft has finished. Arizona is in their first year of a rebuild with GM Niehenke coming in days before the trade deadline. This saw quick work of stripping things down and several high picks in the most recent draft. The following are the players picked with a short scouting report and stylistic comparison/my expectation.

Round 1

#11 – Jack Quinn – “Quinn is one of the older players in the draft and came on quite strong in the latter half of the year. Jack possesses one of the single best shots in this draft and posted 50+ goals this past year. He provides a good all-around game playing in all 3 zones. In our eyes a great argument can be made for Jack being the best player over Rossi on the 67’s this year. Quinn was ranked #9 on our list in the 4-12 tier”

Player Comparison: Mark Stone

Expectation: 60-80pts all-around top six winger

#12 – Anton Lundell – “Lundell has been known to the hockey world for multiple years now. Known as the best two-way player prospect in the draft the only questions are on his offensive upside. There isn’t much flare to his game, but his production is actually quite amazing and he comes with a great work ethic and hockey IQ. Given the latter combo he should be a safe bet to be at least a 2nd-3rd liner tweener. Lundell was ranked #10 on our listin the 4-12 tier”

Player Comparison: Mikko Koivu

Expectation: 60-70 pts two-way center
#16 – Dawson Mercer – “Mercer is another one of those 3 zone players who does a little of everything well. Dawson has above-average hands and able to create space for himself or others. He could use help on his explosiveness and acceleration yet is one of the safer players in the draft. A late season trade and slight decrease in production keeps him from being a top 10 pick. Mercer was #14 on our list in the 13-14 tier”

Player Comparison: Jonathan Toews

Expectation: 50-70 pts two-way center

#21 – Jacob Perreault – “Jacob Perreault is one of the stranger players to watch. He won the skating competition and can be a speed demon yet other times the speed and skating doesn’t seem to show. Jacob possesses one of the top 5-10 shots in this draft. Between his shot and skating ability there is a lot to like and look forward to. Perreault was #15 on our list in the 15-24 tier”

Player Comparison: Jakub Silfverberg

Expectation: 50-70 pts speedy goal scorer

#25 – Lukas Reichel – “One of three super impressive likely 1st round German selections this draft. Reichel is the son of former NHLer Robert Reichel and played all year in the men’s league putting up solid numbers. He is a great skater and similar hands infront and around the net. To our scouts he was in the top five most underrated guys available. Reichel was #16 on our list in the 15-24 tier”

Player Comparison: Mike Hoffman

Expectation: 50-60 pts top six winger

Round 2

#34 – Ridly Greig – “Work ethic, work ethic, and work ethic. Greig has strong acceleration and first few steps. He does possess solid hands and capable of both playing the role of scorer or playmaker. He isn’t elite in anyway or form yet one of those guys you love to have on your team. There is little he doesn’t bring and with a little edge to go with his skill and work ethic should be a safer bet. Greig was #26 on our list in the late 1st round tier”

Player Comparison: Brayden Schenn

Expectation: 40-60 pts middle six winger

#36 – Thomas Bordeleau – “Both Thomas’ father and grandfather played in the NHL. Bordeleau possesses an enticing offensive package. The question with him come his size and defensive side of the puck. Come offense he led the US NTDP in scoring the past season. More of a shooter than playmaker willing to shoot anywhere at anytime. Bordeleau was #28 on our list in the late 1st round tier”

Player Comparison: Martin St. Loius

Expectation: 50-70 pts top six winger

#52 – Carter Savoie – “One of the biggest enigmas in this draft. There is zero questioning his upside yet Savoie probably will fall on a few teams DND list while for others he will be a clearcut 1st round worthy pick. His offensive game and IQ are top 15 worthy the issues comes from the lack of effort shown regularly. When he is on and tries he is dazzling to watch. Savoie was was in our early 2nd round tier”

Player Comparison: Cam Atkinson

Expectation: 40-80 pts top six winger IF he makes it

Round 3

#80 – Drew Commesso – “Commesso plays a slightly more aggressive game. He is an excellent puck handler and likes to cut off angles. Given his athleticism and compete level he is often able to quickly recover or get from one post to the other. Drew posted numbers better than his predecesoor S. Knight was was a top 15 pick. There are more questions to his game like his blocker, which often leads to bad rebounds. His game shows great potential however. Commesso was in our late 2nd early 3rd tier.”

Player Comparison: Marty Turco

Expectation: 1A starter

Round 5

#140 – Dmitri Rashevsky – “Rashnevsky is an overager who spent the year playing in the MHL posting 44goals in just 61 games. Having been passed over obviously questions exist in his game. Rashnevsky posseseses some of the top skill talents in this draft however. He is tough to get a full proper read on and in some services not even ranked while in the select few he is seen as a 2nd rounder. Those that like him like him a lot and the rest not so much. Rashnevsky was in our late 2nd round early 3rd round tier”

Player Comparison: ????

Expectation: 50-70 pts goal scoring winger if he makes it
