Every once in a while when I’m bored with nothing else to do I’m going to do one of these prospect spotlights for the upcoming draft I guess. Up next is my current #4 guy which to me is Dylan Guenther. It appears that I have Guenther higher up on my list than most of the hockey world as most have him at the #7 range, but overall he’s a player that I really like.

Guenther is a 6’1” LW who plays for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL. Last year was his rookie campaign and he put up an impressive 26 goals and 33 assists to total up 59 points in 58 games. This year he has started playing in the AJHL because the WHL has not started up yet and he has put up 3 goals and 2 assists in 4 games. He’s seen primarily as a sniper, but his playmaking skills are touted highly as well showing just how highly skilled he is. To go along with this he has good skating ability and high hockey IQ. There are only really 2 glaring flaws with his game and those are he is not the biggest kid as he only weighs 170 pounds, and the other flaw is that his defensive game isn’t the best, but it’s far from horrible. Overall I wouldn’t be surprised if come draft day he’s the best forward on the board. I personally think he has a bit more upside than Raty, but just doesn’t have nearly as high of a floor as he does at the moment.
